National Zoo Park authorities have planned to conduct conservation breeding programs of the Central Zoo Authorities for the growth of endangered species of birds, animals and plants etc. Various varieties wild animals, birds and plants were grown and developed through conservation breeding programs brow at this zoo including, Bengal tiger, Indian rhinoceros, swamp deer, Asiatic lion, brow antlered deer, and red jungle fowl etc.
Few of the animals grown through conservation breeding programs at National Zoo Park have been distributed to other zoos located in Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Junagarh and Mysore. All animals distributed to other zoos found to have acclimated well to their zoo locations.
Main objectives are:
- As zoos are visited by large numbers of people and represent a potent tool for providing mass education on the close links between protection of natural areas and maintaining the life supporting processes of nature.
- To motivate zoo visitors empathy for wild animals, an understanding and awareness about the need for conservation of natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.
