Conservation breeding programmes

National Zoo Park authorities have planned to conduct conservation breeding programs of the Central Zoo Authorities for the growth of endangered species of birds, animals and plants etc. Various varieties wild animals, birds and plants were grown and developed through conservation breeding programs brow at this zoo including, Bengal tiger, Indian rhinoceros, swamp deer, Asiatic lion, brow antlered deer, and red jungle fowl etc.

Few of the animals grown through conservation breeding programs at National Zoo Park have been distributed to other zoos located in Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Junagarh and Mysore. All animals distributed to other zoos found to have acclimated well to their zoo locations.

Main objectives are:

  • As zoos are visited by large numbers of people and represent a potent tool for providing mass education on the close links between protection of natural areas and maintaining the life supporting processes of nature.

  • To motivate zoo visitors empathy for wild animals, an understanding and awareness about the need for conservation of natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.

Reviving Childhood Experience

It was a pretty spontaneous plan to revive our childhood memories. After a long time, me and my friends went to National Zoological Park of delhi which is located close to my college and our quirky group of friends found this place a perfect relaxing hangout. It was a lovely day and i think the animals also enjoyed our company as much as we did watching them.

The zoo was pretty empty, and I could see the animals properly without being pushed around by the crowd. We went in and noticed that as you get in, you move down few sets of steps and find yourself along side a narrow stream hosting ducks. If you are attentive you would also notice that you can walk along a arrow-painted guided-path, that way you can cover the Zoo in a better way without getting lost in the myriad of cages, lawns, open enclosures and so on.
Small mini-vans are available to take people around the Delhi zoo, if they don't wanna walk. However, these vans go really fast and miss some of the enclosures. Hence, I chose to walk around the zoo, and see the animals at my leisure. There are arrows marking a trail in the ground, but these arrows were not numbered and were too confusing. I saw arrows everywhere, got confused, and then followed my own path.
